Introduction to Research Methods

With Dr. Justin Gengler, Research Assistant Professor, Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Qatar University (QU)

Thu Feb 7, 2019

12:30 PM – 04:30 PM

CIRS Conference Room

Registration required

Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided.

In this Workshop, students will learn the meaning of “research methods” and the place of methods in the overall research process. Participants will learn to identify some of the most common methodological approaches and, in interactive group activities, how to choose a research method suitable for a particular research question. By the end of the Workshop, students will be able to explain how different methodological approaches could be appropriate for tackling their own research projects, whether for a class, a UREP project, or a certificate or Honors thesis. Students at all levels will benefit from this Workshop, especially those currently involved in or considering a UREP project, certificate, or Honors thesis. It is not required to have attended a previous CURA Workshop; however, the material presented by Dr. Gengler will complement the skills covered in the previous workshop on “Designing a Research Question.”

Registration is open to all GU-Q students, and is capped at a maximum of 20 participants, in order of registration with a wait list.

Registration closes: January 31, 2019 (5:00 pm)
