Harry Verhoeven is an Associate Professor of International Relations and African Politics at Georgetown University in Qatar. He is the author of Water, Civilisation and Power in Sudan: The Political Economy of Military-Islamist State Building (2015), and Why Comrades Go To War: Liberation Politics and the Outbreak of Africa's Deadliest Conflict (2016). He acquired his doctorate from the University of Oxford and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge in 2016-2017. He remains the Convenor of the Oxford University China-Africa Network and is co-editor of the new Cambridge University Press book series on Intelligence & National Security in Africa and the Middle East. In the recent past, he has collaborated with the World Bank, the UN Department of Political Affairs and the United Nations Development Programme.
