Mehran Kamrava on UN Court Findings on UAE Boycott

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Law and Public Policy (CLPP) hosted a colloquium and a panel discussion on October 10, 2018, to examine the domestic and legal implications of the order on provisional measures adopted by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Mehran Karmava, Director of the Center for International and Regional Studies at Georgetown University in Qatar, argued that “we see that nationalism and patriotism have trumped the other factors. From the social science perspective, this shows that national identity and patriotism overshadow kinship and tribalism and indicates the maturity of the nation state.”
